About

Underwater photographer Aruba

It’s my mission to share the unique experience of an underwatershoot &
making you feel happy with exceptional artlike photos.

Photographer Michael Moore in Aruba, fully equipped with underwater camera gear, preparing for an underwater portrait photoshoot in a crystal-clear pool.

How I became an Underwater Photographer on Aruba. When I did my first underwater shoot I knew instantly: “This is it!”

No, not really. As a student I was good at learning, which made me study law at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and Florida State University, before becoming a lawyer and a mediator. I have always been creative with video- & photography and web design. So becoming a photographer is not a big surprise. Becoming an underwater photographer on the other hand is. When I was 2 years of age I lived in the Caribbean with my family. My father built a pool for me and my brother. I never touched the water, because I was afraid of it. Many years later I returned to the Caribbean and nowadays the pool is my second home.

The underwater world is special. The tranquility and weightlessness make it an enjoyable and relaxing place. I’m drawn to art and seeing things differently. Making photos of people underwater creates a mystical and artlike feel to photos, which I really like. photography you need underwater gear besides a professional camera and lens. Also the time that’s put into professional editing is longer than online land editing.

Creating unique artlike photos, while being underwater.

Something different. Exciting, fun and relaxing at the same time. That’s the feedback I usually get.

Because we already had a talk before the shoot there is a clear starting point. On the day itself I make sure my client is at ease. I usually start with the photos that don’t take a lot of effort for my client. When my client is more settled in the water, we dive further underwater. I coach on breathing and poses. An important part of a relaxing shoot is that my client can stand in the pool. Between the poses and the dives we communicate to get the best poses. I also show the photos on the camera. I am open to suggestions from my clients to make it even more interactive.

Besides being master of your camera and its settings, having an eye for detail and editing are important skills. Most of the time is spent in editing the photos. Getting the right light and colors underwater is more of a challenge than on land. You also need to be patient as a photographer and model, because you can’t communicate underwater and there is not a lot of time to take many photos in one take. Besides that creativity and being open to new ideas are important skills. Last but not least being able to listen to your client and knowing their needs is important to create unique underwater photos.
